There is high risk to your security in Suva and an increasing risk in Fiji. We recommend against non-essential travel to
Fiji at this time.
There are reports that the Fiji military and President have undertaken unconstitutional actions to remove the Fiji
Government. The situation may further deteriorate.
The New Zealand Government will continue to seek assurances from the Fiji military that the safety of New Zealanders
will not be compromised, but we cannot guarantee safety if the situation deteriorates.
New Zealanders in Fiji should seek to avoid being caught up in any violence, including by avoiding demonstrations, large
gatherings and areas of military activity.
On 26 November, the New Zealand Government moved High Commission dependents out of Suva in response to a specific
security concern. Given the uncertain security situation, they have yet to return. The voluntary departure of dependents
of New Zealand High Commission staff from Fiji has been authorised.
We recommend you monitor the media and this website, ensure you have appropriate insurance cover and that your travel
documents are easily accessible.
This advice will be kept under review. A further escalation of the situation could result in a warning to avoid all
travel to Fiji.
