Family First stoked with number of complaints re Condom Ad from Hell
Family First is stoked with the news that the objectionable and inappropriate Condom Pamphlet Drop into family
letterboxes nationwide by Hell’s Pizza has received the most complaints ever made to the Advertising Standards Authority
(ASA).
“Our campaign was simply to send a clear message to the ASA that this type of advertising is totally unacceptable,” says
Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First. “To have over 600 complaints from individuals and families across the
country shows that many NZ’ers are sick and tired of the increasing level of objectionable advertising – especially
advertising with explicit sexual and violent content, and advertisements which are inappropriate for children to view.”
Regarding the Hell Condom advertisement, Mr McCoskrie said it was offensive to families to have condoms and explicit sex
instructions put in their letterbox.
“It broke a number of the Codes of Advertising Standards, and showed that the company had no regard for vulnerable and
innocent children, or families. It also showed their desperation to get profile at any cost.”
“Hell’s Pizza had a cheek to try and defend their campaign by telling parents that they weren’t doing a good enough job
of educating their kids on sexual matters. Hell should butt out of what is the role of parents,” says Mr McCoskrie.
Mr McCoskrie hopes that the overwhelming opposition to the advertisement will be backed up by the Advertising Standards
Authority.
“The ASA needs to listen to NZ families and act in the best interests of our children.”
