Resignation Of Commissioner Of Inland Revenue
The State Services Commissioner, Mark Prebble, announced today that David Butler has indicated his intention to resign
as Chief Executive and Commissioner of Inland Revenue in order to take up the role of Head of Taxation Administration
and Consumption Tax at the OECD in Paris, France. His last day will be 23 March 2007.
David Butler was appointed Chief Executive of Inland Revenue in February 2001. He has had a long and distinguished
career in the New Zealand and Australian public sector.
Mark Prebble said he was pleased that David Butler's extensive knowledge of taxation and management issues has been
recognised through his appointment to the prestigious OECD position.
"He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and his staff but we are all very proud of his achievement. Although this
move means a loss for the Public Service, his appointment is a measure of the respect that New Zealand's Inland Revenue
has in the international community."
"Under David's leadership, Inland Revenue has improved its relationships with government, other agencies, and the
business community. He has championed the effort to improve Inland Revenue's capability and its responsiveness to
taxpayers."
"The process to appoint a new chief executive for Inland Revenue will begin shortly. This appointment process is likely
to take some time, as it will be very important to ensure the right candidate is selected for this pivotal role," Mark
Prebble said.
