Strike action at TVNZ underway
A strike by members of the Public Service Association and the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union is currently underway at TVNZ with some disruptions to programmes likely.
TVNZ staff walked off the job at 5pm today. This strike is the start of rolling strike action to be taken by union members seeking a 5 percent pay rise and additional annual leave.
“The strike is designed to send a clear message to TVNZ management that our members are serious about a decent pay offer and better annual leave provisions,” said Richard Wagstaff, PSA National Secretary.
“There will be further industrial action until TVNZ agree to give staff a fair deal.”
Union members are taking a series of surprise stoppages called by a Strike Action Committee which informs members by text message when the strike will be held.
“TVNZ needs to understand that it cannot take its staff for granted and must act responsibly towards them,” said Andrew Little, EPMU National Secretary.
“TVNZ staff deserve a five percent pay increase in line with other settlements throughout the country.”
The unions represent over 300 members at TVNZ in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and are presenters, producers, administrators, camera people and technical support and scheduling.
