Wellington CIB investigating a sexual assault want to hear from everyone who travelled on a Stagecoach bus service from
the city to Kingston last Friday night.
Detective Sergeant Zane Smith, Wellington CIB, says a female student was sexually assaulted in Tanera Crescent,
Brooklyn, soon after she got off a Number 7 Wellington to Kingston Stagecoach bus.
It's believed the offender, a young caucasian man in his 20s, was a passenger on the same bus as the victim.
Detective Sergeant Smith says the victim caught the Kingston bus from Willis Street between 9.30pm and 10pm on Friday,
20 October. The bus was scheduled to leave from the railway station at around 9.30pm. The victim got off at the stop
near Brooklyn Road and Ohiro Road, and was followed by a male passenger who got off at the same stop.
She went up the walkway leading from the Ohiro Road intersection to Tanera Crescent and was followed into Helen Street.
The offender then followed the woman back into Tanera Crescent where the assault happened.
"We know that lots of people were on the Kingston service that night," Detective Sergeant Smith says. "It's critical
that we speak with everyone who was on that bus. They may be able to identify the offender for us."
The offender is about 170cm tall, was wearing a grey top with two pockets at the front, black pants - possibly track
pants, and a dark green peaked hat or cap with a small or narrow peak.
Police have released a sketch of the man which they believe to be a good likeness. They'd like to hear from anyone who
may know this person.
Anyone who was on the bus or who has information that may help the inquiry is asked to call Detective Sergeant Smith or
Detective Constable Antony Callon at Wellington Police on 04 381 2000.
