Zero Waste Week 9th – 13th October, 2006
The Zero Waste New Zealand Trust advises that for Zero Waste Week 2006, it has organised a 4 day South Island bus tour,
Christchurch to Christchurch, which is visiting a number of enterprises where zero waste and recycling are actually
happening!
The bus tour, organised predominantly for Councillors and Council waste engineers and staff, is today visiting TerraNova
with their EcoDepot and EcoPark in Christchurch, and then driving up to visit Innovative Waste Kaikoura, and their local
resource recovery centre.
On Tuesday it turns around, with its first call being to the Southbrook Transfer Station at Rangiora. It then proceeds
further south, visiting the new Pines Resource Recovery Park at Rolleston, and then on to Ashburton, to see the renowned
Wastebusters team in action.
Wednesday focuses on a home biodiesel project in Twizel, and the Central Wormworx worm-farm in Cromwell, before visiting
other resource recovery operations at Oamaru and Timaru, on the way back to Christchurch on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Lincoln community groups have organised a street-by-street Zero Waste challenge, with the goal of creating a
truly sustainable eco-town. Prizes will be given for the streets with the most innovative and successful waste reduction
activities. The contact for information here is Anne Nelson: nelsona@lincoln.ac.nz
Meanwhile, down in Wanaka, Sustainable Wanaka is this week launching their new programme to head towards their vision of
a plastic-bag free Wanaka, with the lovely slogan of “bag the habit!”. The contact there is Sophie Ward: sophieward@ekit.com
