Car Impounded In Boy Racer Enforcement

Wellington Police have impounded a car after the driver was detected on laser travelling at 100kph on one of the city's
major arterial streets.
Senior Sergeant Richard Hocken, Wellington Road Policing Group, said the incident happened on Kent Terrace early on
Saturday morning - not far from Cambridge Terrace where pedestrian Amy Edward-Mintorn was killed last month.
"Police continue to be frustrated over the behaviour of some drivers, who despite the recent death of a pedestrian in
the area, and publicity around street racing, continue to act irresponsibly on the road," Senior Sergeant Hocken said.
Police have impounded under the boy racer legislation a total of nine vehicles in Wellington city this month.
The Subaru car in Saturday's incident was borrowed, and driven by a 21-year-old man on a restricted licence. The car has
been impounded for 28 days, and the driver is charged with an unnecessary exhibition of speed.
"Unless driving behaviour improves then Saturday's car impound probably won't be the last," Senior Sergeant Hocken said.
