There is some risk to your security in Thailand: On 19 September 2006 the Thai military carried out a coup against the Prime Minister and
took over key government buildings and the national television station. Tanks have surrounded Government House. A
statement was issued stating the armed forces and police were in control of Bangkok and surrounding provinces and an
appeal for calm. Martial law has been declared and all troops have been ordered to return to their bases.
If you are in Bangkok at present, we recommend you avoid public gatherings and demonstrations and keep away from key
government buildings.
You should monitor the media to keep up to date with the situation and heed any instructions issued by the local
authorities.
If you are travelling to Thailand or elsewhere in Thailand contact your airline office or tourist operator before
starting out to find out the latest situation and continue to monitor this site. This advice will be kept under review
and could change at short notice. Passengers transiting Bangkok airport should likewise check with their travel
provider.
If possible, you may wish to delay your travel until the security situation is clearer.
