Public Service Association launches appeal for locked out workers
The PSA has today launched a nation-wide appeal to its 55,000 members throughout the public sector seeking financial
support for the 600 locked out supermarket distribution workers and their families to meet their basic costs of living.
“We have been overwhelmed with union members asking how they can support the locked out workers, said Brenda Pilott PSA
National Secretary.
“We want this appeal to ensure that all our members who want to donate, can.”
“We have sent appeal collection bags to over 4,000 union delegates throughout local and central government and in health
and community services.”
“This dispute is not just about these workers, it is also about the kind of New Zealand that we want to live in: one
where workers are paid a fair wage, are respected at work and can collectively bargain terms and conditions of
employment.”
“Our members are appalled that this company pays its Chief Executive $8.5 million per year. These workers are seeking a
small fraction of this,” said Brenda Pilott.
The PSA is New Zealand’s largest union representing over 55,000 public service workers in local and central government,
health and community services.
The PSA has given support on the picket lines and made a financial contribution to the locked out workers’ fund.
