New District Commanders For North Shore Waitakere Rodney And Wellington

Police Commissioner Howard Broad has announced the appointment of new district commanders for North Shore Waitâkere
Rodney and Wellington.
The new District Commander for North Shore Waitâkere Rodney will be Superintendent Viv Rickard. Superintendent Rickard
is the current District Commander for Northland.
The new District Commander for Wellington will be Superintendent Pieri Munro. Superintendent Munro is currently the
General Manager Mâori, Pacific and Ethnic Services.
Mr Broad said both Superintendents would bring considerable skills and experience to their new positions in two of the
larger police districts in the country.
Prior to his appointment as District Commander Northland five years ago, Superintendent Rickard was the Crime Services
Manager in Northland. Over the past 21 years he has also worked in Auckland and the Bay of Plenty in a variety of
operational positions within the Criminal Investigation and General Duties branches. He is of Ngâti Whakaue, Ngâti
Wahare and Ngâti Rongomai descent on his mother's side and Ngâti Porou on his father's side.
Superintendent Munro began his police career as a cadet and general duties constable in Porirua and Upper Hutt between
1976 and 1985. He was a Senior Sergeant Field Supervisor in Gisborne 1993-1995, was appointed National Manager of
Cultural Affairs in 1998 and General Manager MPES in 2002. In 2004-05 he was Acting District Commander of Waikato. He is
of Ngâti Maniapoto, Ngâti Ruanui, and Ngai Tahu descent on his mother's side and Ngâti Kahungunu on his father's side.
