Media release: New Zealander injured in Jordan Shooting
A New Zealand woman injured in a shooting in Jordan has undergone surgery and is expected to remain in hospital in Amman
for several days.
She was seriously injured in a shooting at an Amman tourist site, a Roman amphitheatre, yesterday (NZT). A British
tourist was killed and other tourists and a local police officer were injured. Three other New Zealanders at the scene
were not injured.
All four New Zealanders have been offered assistance by staff from the office of New Zealand’s Honorary Consul in
Jordan, Maurice Khalaf, British Embassy officials and Jordanian authorities.
The New Zealand woman, aged 28, is an Australian resident and was able to speak directly with family members there
earlier today. She has undergone surgery and her family has been advised the operation was successful. Details of her
injuries will not be released.
Family of all the New Zealanders involved have been contacted either directly by the travellers or by MFAT. All four New
Zealanders were on an organised tour which included Jordan.
The injured woman’s family has asked that her details not be released and that media not attempt to contact them. The
other New Zealanders on the tour have also not given permission for their details to be released.
