The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to a serious accident involving an Army Unimog this afternoon.
The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic onboard was called to the Weld Pass, between Blenheim and
Seddon, where a Unimog vehicle had rolled down a 150 foot bank.
Initial reports reported two seriously injured people at the scene but one had died prior to our arrival.
The other man, an 18 year old, was being treated by Wairau Hospital Ambulance staff about 1/2 way down the bank, when
the helicopter arrived. Police, fire, ambulance and army personnel were all on the scene.
After he was stabilised the man was winched into the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and brought to a landing site where he
was treated further before being transported to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department.
