Police have commenced a homicide enquiry after a 30 year old Murupara man died yesterday evening. The man had been at an address in Kauri Crescent shortly before 7pm. He had an argument with at least one other person. He suffered what is believed to be a stab wound to his chest and was taken to the residence of a local doctor where it was found that he had passed away.
A 33 year old Murupara man has since been arrested for assaulting the deceased and will appear in the Rotorua District Court on Monday.
Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding this incident are continuing today. Police are conducting a scene examination and speaking with local people.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Kauri Crescent yesterday evening and who may have witnessed the incident.
Police ask that those people to contact the Murupara police station on 07 366 1170.
