New Zealand aid worker heads to Lebanon
As Israel steps up its ground offensive in southern Lebanon, New Zealander Judy Moore is waiting in Cyprus, with other
World Vision relief staff for humanitarian access to open up to southern Lebanon.
Judy Moore is an experienced emergency response specialist, who has worked in post-war Cambodia, Rwanda, Kosovo and
headed World Vision's relief work in Iraq. Four corridors for aid have been identified, but for now access is hampered
by both safety and logistical concerns. World Vision is calling for those in power to halt the conflict and allow safe
passage for aid workers and supplies.
Meanwhile, local World Vision staff are continuing to work in Lebanon, distributing aid to thousands of Internally
Displaced People (IDPs).
The situation continues to worsen for the estimated 800,000 IDPs throughout the country. Thousands are flooding into
areas where World Vision works, and efforts are being made to help them.
More than 5,000 IDPs have received relief packages from World Vision in East Sidon, southern Lebanon. These include
blankets, clothing, hygiene supplies and medication.
