CTU Accuses Mapp of Misrepresentation
The Council of Trade Unions president today accused National Party Industrial Relations’ spokesperson of misrepresentation in claiming that his Bill would introduce probationary employment. Speaking at a rally at Parliament today CTU president Ross Wilson said that even the title of the Bill is “dishonest and misleading”.
“Genuine probationary employment raises a reasonable expectation of continuing employment,” he said. “National’s Bill would strip all working New Zealanders of their legal rights for the first 90 days of their new job.”
“That is not probation,” Ross Wilson said. “It is a new second class of disposable worker.”
“The Employment Relations Act already provides for genuine probationary employment,” he said. “Mr Mapp has failed to produce any evidence that the existing provisions in the Act are unworkable.”
