Nationwide Protests Tomorrow over 90 Days Bill
Workers will not be deterred from protesting tomorrow by Wayne Mapp’s weak assurances that his Bill will help them find
work, the Council of Trade Unions said today.
There are protest actions in Auckland, Hamilton, Nelson and Dunedin tomorrow in support of the rally at Parliament, and
in Christchurch on Saturday.
“This Bill exposes every working New Zealander,” CTU president Ross Wilson told EPMU delegates at their conference in
Wellington this afternoon.
“In any 90-day period 297,000 New Zealanders change jobs – under National’s bill there will be nearly 300,000 Kiwis with
no rights at work.”
"If National wants to genuinely tackle the issue of employment opportunities for people currently excluded from work,
they need to invest in their skills not take away their rights," said Ross Wilson.
"Workers wont be fooled by Wayne Mapp's proposal to 'soften' his bill either. The rallies, postcards, visits to MPs and
other actions that workers have taken are calling for one thing – that the Bill is scrapped."
Ends.
