Eye to Eye - Intermarriage is the answer
Intermarriage is what will unite Maori and Pakeha says National MP, Wayne Mapp.
He was speaking on Eye to Eye with Willie Jackson, on TV One on Saturday morning. The programme was a Matariki special coming out of Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.
Also appearing on the programme were Green MP Metiria Turei and the CEO of the Maori Language Commission, Haami Piripi, who had called for Matariki – the Maori New Year – to be celebrated with a national holiday as part of bringing Maori and Pakeha together.
National’s Employment Spokesman, Wayne Mapp, did not agree that Matariki should be a national holiday. When Eye to Eye host Willie Jackson joked with Mapp about his wife, prominent Maori lawyer Denese Henare, Mapp said that’s where the country was really being united – in the bedroom.
