Death of Former Chief of Army General Staff
Former Army Chief, Major General Bruce Meldrum, CB, OBE passed away in Auckland on Wednesday 14 June 2006.
Major General Meldrum held the Army’s top job as Chief of General Staff from March 1989 to Feb 1992.
The current Chief of Army, Major General Lou Gardiner, said “Major General Meldrum was an army officer who was very well respected by his peers, superiors and subordinates. He was respectful and thoughtful towards others and led the Army through a difficult period of restructuring and relocation.”
A funeral with full military honours will be held for Major General Meldrum at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Parnell, Auckland at 11.00am on Tuesday 20 June 2006. The service will be followed by a private family committal.
