Positive Parenting Programme
Continuation Welcomed By Save The Children
Today's announcement of $14.8 million funding over 4 years for continuation of the SKIP – Strategies with Kids Information for Parents – programme has been welcomed by Save the Children New Zealand's Executive Director, John Bowis.
"One of the best ways to support children and reduce child abuse is to give parents the back up and tools they need to deal with the stressful situations that arise regularly when parenting children. This is especially important when children are in their early years – the period that SKIP focuses on.
"SKIP is a positive parenting programme that promotes non-physical discipline, run at a grass roots level that reaches parents in their communities, so the investment in the programme is welcome.
"SKIP is one of a growing number of programmes, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the Government and community partnership model and Save the Children looks forward to promoting and working on such projects with government and non-government organisations in the future," John Bowis said.
