Wellington QCs lined up for potential Solicitor General appointment
Wellington, 31 May 2006 - Prominent Wellington lawyer Mai Chen is one name touted as a potential candidate for the
Solicitor General vacancy, according to the New Zealand-based legal news website, www.LawFuel.com
LawFuel's "Hot Files" section indicates that the 43-year-old Chen is one of several Wellington candidates for the top
job. The Solicitor General's job fell vacant upon the appointment to the Supreme Court on 19 May of Terence Arnold.
Among other names touted in Wellington legal circles are other women QCs Kristy McDonald and Helen Cull. The
appointment, which is announced by the Governor General on the advice of the Attorney General (Michael Cullen) is
expected to be announced shortly.
