Wellington Conservation Awards nominations sought
Nominations are being sought for the 11th Wellington Conservation Awards, honouring community involvement in conservation.
Organised by the Wellington Conservation Board in partnership with the Department of Conservation’s Wellington Conservancy, the annual awards are presented by the Minister of Conservation during Conservation Week – August 7-11.
They have been designed to recognise sustained commitment by an organisation or individual to a project involving voluntary effort and/or community involvement with a positive conservation outcome within the Wellington Conservancy. Nominations will also be considered for people or groups whose commitment to conservation goes above and beyond what is expected of them in their paid employment.
Examples of groups and individuals eligible for the awards include voluntary groups who are restoring a reserve, hut wardens, people who maintain tracks or public huts, those who care for wildlife on our coasts, and large or small volunteer efforts in all aspects of conservation. Judges are particularly keen to hear from individuals or groups working on historic heritage projects. Nominations for schools or young persons making a special effort is also encouraged.
Nominations for this year’s awards close on Friday, June 30.
Nomination forms can be accessed by emailing Kerry Swadling on kswadling@doc.govt.nz, on the DOC website www.doc.govt.nz (regional info > Wellington > community > conservation awards) or by phoning the Wellington Conservancy on 04 472 5821.
