Police investigate pepper spray incident
Inspector J. HOPE, the Acting District Commander of the NORTH SHORE/WAITAKERE/ RODNEY Police District, has directed an investigation into an incident in Waitakere on the evening of Thursday, 4 May 2006, where a Police member appears to have used pepper spray on a handcuffed man lying on the ground.
Inspector HOPE states "I have directed my staff to commence a full investigation into this report."
"Police are taking the matter extremely seriously and the standard investigation processes and procedures will be followed"
"The Police Complaints Authority has been formally advised of the incident and the investigation will be undertaken by the District Professional Standards Section."
"A copy of the report will be sent to the Office of the Commissioner once the investigation has been completed"
