J Day 2006
NORML in assocation with the Global Coalition for Alternatives to the Drug War presents:
International J Day on Saturday 6 May, an event dedicated to the celebration of cannabis and in support of ending prohibition and the war on drugs
J Day runs from "high noon" to 4:20pm, at the following locations:
Auckland : Albert Park Wellington : Frank Kitts Park Christchurch : Cathedral Square Dunedin : The Octagon
J Day is a free community event, organised by the National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and celebrated every year in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin plus more than 150 cities around the world.
"With more than 52% of NZ adults and 80% of 21-year-olds having admitted they have broken the law and tried cannabis, we say "smoking pot is norml" and that our drug laws need to be reformed so they respect the majority," says Chris Fowlie, president of NORML NZ and organiser of the Auckland event.
"New Zealand has the highest arrest rate for cannabis in the world, yet use continues to rise. Prohibition does not work and it is crazy to persist with it when we can all see it is a failure.
"We invite supporters of sensible drug laws or anyone interested in finding out about alternatives to the drug war to come along and check us out."
The full line-up including bands and guest speakers will be confirmed soon.
