Man Remanded After Castor Bay Incident

A 41 year old man has appeared in the North Shore District Court today on a Crimes Act assault charge, after a driveway incident in suburb of Castor Bay.
The man, who was arrested last night, has been granted interim name suppression. No plea was entered at today's Court appearance.
Bail has been granted, and the man has been remanded to reappear in Court again on 30 March 2006.
Police say that about 7.55pm last night they were called to a residential address in Castor Bay. Upon their arrival they found a 64 year old male lying unconscious in the driveway of the property.
An ambulance was called and the victim was rushed to Auckland Hospital, where he died a short time later. An autopsy has been carried out today.
Police have since released the name of the deceased man. He was:
Ronald John SMITH DOB 19/08/1941 - Age 64 years Married Castor Bay Road, Castor Bay.
Police say their inquiries are continuing. They are not seeking anyone else, nor are they making any further comments on this incident, at this time.
