Army Progresses Driver Training Review Recommendations
Recommendations designed to further enhance the already well regarded driver education and training regime of the New
Zealand Army, identified after an Army-wide review into driver training, are progressing steadily.
"I have been very clear from the outset, the Army will strive to provide a world class driver education and training
programme. I am committed to ensuring the areas identified by the Driver Training Review are implemented", says the
Chief of Army, Major General Jerry Mateparae.
Major General Mateparae said he is maintaining an overview of how this significant project is advancing. "I've been
updated by my staff on the progress that the implementation of the recommendations has been taking. While resources
across the Army are short in some key areas, I'm satisfied that alongside the successful introduction into service of
the NZLAV and the Pinzgauer Light Operational Vehicle the recommendations are being implemented in a sensible, pragmatic
manner which will serve us well into the future."
The recommendations are being managed under the supervision of the Commander of the Army Training Group, and primarily
implemented by the Army's Master Driver. They are beginning to take effect as Training Management Plans are updated and
education processes are adopted and imparted to drivers across the Army. The recommendations will continue to be
progressively implemented over the next year.
