Kids Come First
Many children returning to school have already been robbed of their human rights says Jim Bagnall, Children’s Rights spokesperson for The Republic of New Zealand Party (The Republicans)
Mr Bagnall said that of the one million school children in New Zealand, 300,000 are going solo.
“The justice system has separated these children from their parents.”
Mr Bagnall said that under sections 59-62 of the Care of Children Act 2004, the Family Court does not need any real evidence to marginalise either parent from the child.
“The damage being done to boys and girls can be seen in educational underachievement in the classroom,” Mr Bagnall said.
He said the basic the basic rights children are entitled to have are
• The right to life
• The right to a real Mum
• The right to a real Dad
• The right to real Families
• The right to love and to be loved in a real family with real parents
• The right to a future
• The right to spend (as near as possible) equal time with each parent when there is a split.
Mr Bagnall said The Republicans would enshrine these rights into New Zealand’s Constitution to ensure the rights of all children, particularly those in families that have split are protected.
“Our children are our future. They deserve better than they have been getting.”
