Bradford First MP to Donate to Low Paid Workers
SuperSizeMyPay.Com applauds MP Sue Bradford’s decision to donate half of her back pay tomorrow at the “Make Poverty
Wages History” press conference, Wednesday January 25th, 12 noon at the Mercure Hotel, 8 Customs St.
The Green Party MP’s pledge follows a call by Unite Union Auckland President Matt McCarten for all ex-MPs to donate
their recent pay rise back pay to New Zealand’s low paid workers as community groups get together urging the public to
join the fight to make poverty wages history.
“We commend politicians who go out of their way to help low paid and minimum wage workers and call on all MPs and ex-MPs
(who received three months back pay after leaving parliament) to pledge their bonus at http://supersizemypay.com/mp_donation_form,” said campaign organiser Simon Oosterman.
“We encourage other MPs to speak out against youth rates by actively endorsing our campaign, by supporting Sue
Bradford’s Minimum Wage (Abolition of Age Discrimination) Amendment Bill and to speak at the “StopWork to Stop Low Pay”
public meeting at the Town Hall on Sunday, February 12 at 2pm.”
Bradford is joining grassroots organisations, including health, student, ethnic and poverty groups, NGOs, and unions in
supporting the fast food workers’ SuperSizeMyPay.com campaign for a $12 minimum wage, an end to youth rates and secure
hours.
