“They Don’t Want to Know”
“The response from the pro-abortion lobby to Professor David Fergusson’s study on the evidence of depression and mental health problems following abortion is predictable- they don’t want to know,” says Josephine Reeves, National President of Voice for Life.
“This is no comfort to post abortion women suffering from increased rates of mental problems ranging from depression and anxiety to suicidal behaviour and substance abuse.
“It has been conclusively shown since 1996 that there is a 30% risk increase of breast cancer among all women who have an abortion and a 50% increase among who have an abortion before their first full term pregnancy. This risk has been consistently downplayed by abortion politics.
“Substantial evidence from post-abortion women who have approached Voice for Life and also from post-abortion counsellors, bears out the findings of Professor Fergusson. It also reveals the lack of information given to women who seek abortion – a right that have under the law.
“Recently two women in the USA successfully prosecuted abortion doctors who failed to inform them about the increased risk of breast cancer and psychological harm. In Australia there have been a number of out-of-court settlements on these grounds.
“Almost 99% of the 18,211 abortions referred to in the Abortion Supervisory Committee’s 2005 report were approved on the specious grounds that continuation of the pregnancy would result in serious danger to the mental health of the woman or girl. Professor Fergusson’s study highlights the possibility for legal redress for women who have not been given full information of all the risks of abortion.
