Two important meetings are coming up in Auckland over the next week which feature overseas speakers:
The rise of Respect
How Britain's far-left coalition Respect won a parliamentary seat
Tony Morris, an organiser for Respect in George Galloway's winning electorate, also belongs to the Socialist Workers
Party in England. He will speak about how Respect knocked Labour out of a "safe" East London seat.
He will also explain how the far-left coalition is organising to win big time in this year's council elections. This has
direct relevance to Workers Charter if we decide to stand in next year's local body elections.
Tony will talk at the Auckland Marxist Workshop, replacing the advertised topic on the proposed China-NZ free trade
agreement (which will be held later). To be followed by a "happy hour" (or two).

Asian people fight back against trade threats to the Third World
Jim McIlroy is from the Democratic Socialist Perspective, an affiliate of the Australian Socialist Alliance. He attended
the recent people's protests against the World Trade Organisation meeting in Hong Kong last December.
Jim will give an eyewitness account of the struggle launched by Asian workers, peasants and students' organisations
against the WTO's threats to their livelihood. The militant protests in Hong Kong reflect a new rise in the
international struggle against neo-liberal globalisation.
