New Year, New Flag
This New Year is time for a New Flag says Kerry Bevin, Political Leader of The Republic of New Zealand Party.
He said many New Zealanders now want the black flag with a white fern on it.
“We have a proud heritage with this flag.”
Mr Bevin said a Republican Government would cut ties with the Royals and ask Kiwis if they want this flag.
This is in line with our belief in Direct Democracy and binding citizen’s referenda.
Mr Bevin said that the threshold for citizens’ referenda would be 75%
‘If 75% of New Zealanders say they want a new flag then they will get it.”
Mr Bevin said the black flag with the white fern has already emerged as our de facto flag
“We have moved beyond needing outdated symbols like the Union Jack and now need symbols that are relevant to us in the here and now!”
