No sign of 'donor fatigue' as New Zealanders give generously to Kashmir earthquake
TEAR Fund New Zealand has witnessed a significant and generous response to their Kashmir earthquake appeal, despite
reports of 'donor fatigue', or a perceived lack of interest in the disaster in South Asia.
New Zealanders have donated over $150,000 to TEAR Fund's Kashmir earthquake appeal, and donations continue to pour in.
This is despite reports that the Boxing Day tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and other disasters have diminished the capacity
or willingness to give.
"New Zealanders have again demonstrated their keenness to give to those in desperate need, especially as the realisation
and awareness of the scale of this disaster increases," says TEAR Fund Executive Director Stephen Tollestrup.
Through partner Medair, TEAR Fund is operating in the Bagh district of Pakistan, distributing winterised tents,
blankets, plastic sheets and warm clothing. TEAR Fund is also supplying clean water, food items, medical care and
preparing to construct temporary shelters. TEAR Fund is working in the Uri district of Indian-administered Kashmir,
providing relief materials.
