Greenpeace Mourns Passing of Rod Donald
Greenpeace today mourned the loss of one of New Zealand?s great activists with the death of Green Party co-leader, Rod Donald.
"Rod's unique and often flamboyant approach to campaigning has been an inspiration to environmental and social justice activists both here and abroad" said Greenpeace Aotearoa's Executive Director Bunny McDiarmid.
"One of Rod's wonderful legacies will be the way he skilfully wove social justice and environmental issues together, recognising the inextricable connection between people and planet."
Rod had the vision to not only highlight the problems facing the planet but also provide solutions. This not only saw Rod fighting to stave off the economic ravages of international 'free trade' but complemented this by campaigning for an independent and economically strong Aotearoa with his 'Buy Kiwi Made' initiative.
With Rod's passing we are saddened by the fall of mighty Kauri, we can only be thankful that Rod's actions and campaigning over the years have inspired so many New Zealanders to continue his fight.
Our thoughts are with his partner and 3 daughters.
