Chief Executive Resigns
6 October 2005
Child, Youth and Family’s Chief Executive Paula Tyler has tendered her resignation from the position for family reasons and will be returning to Canada. Her resignation has been accepted by the State Services Commissioner.
Ms Tyler’s partner has returned to Canada to take up the position of Chief of Staff in the Alberta State Premier’s office. She has given three months’ notice, making her last day the end of December.
“In light of my partner’s return, I have had to reassess my future options,” Ms Tyler said. “I have very reluctantly decided to resign as Chief Executive of Child, Youth and Family and return to Canada.
“This was not an easy decision for me to make and involved much soul searching. It was made entirely for personal rather than professional reasons: I had to choose between a job that is both challenging and hugely rewarding, and being with my partner and family back in Canada.
“I leave with great sadness. If it were not for the change in my personal circumstances, I would have relished the chance to continue in the role,” Ms Tyler said. “I thoroughly enjoyed my job, my colleagues – and New Zealanders in general.”
She remains committed to the work of the Department and is proud of the improvements it has made over the past couple of years.
“I have great confidence in the strength and leadership of the current Executive Committee and I believe the Department is in good shape to carry on its good work.”
Ms Tyler took up the position of Chief Executive of Child, Youth and Family in August last year.
