Kelvin Powell set to return to District Commander role
Superintendent Kelvin Powell will return to his role as District Commander Waikato on October 20, the Acting
Commissioner of Police, Steve Long, said today.
Acting Commissioner Long said that a process had been followed to facilitate Superintendent Powell's entitlement to
return to work. The Superintendent had been reinstated as a Police Officer in late August.
The current process will see Superintendent Powell undertake a two week programme of briefings and catching up on issues
relevant to his role. He will then take a short period of leave before the Acting District Commander for Waikato,
Superintendent Pieri Munro, commences a hand-over on 17 October. Superintendent Powell will resume full command on 20
October.
"Superintendent Powell will receive all the help and support he needs to reintegrate into the job after the difficult
matters of the last year and a half," said Acting Commissioner Long.
Mr Long said that Kelvin Powell was a hard working, highly capable and committed member of Police and he was sure that
the Superintendent would take up where he left off.
"Kelvin will undoubtedly be determined to work very hard to maintain and enhance the performance of his district in
providing policing services to the communities of the Waikato," said the Acting Commissioner.
