Pakuranga Can Give Voice to Moral Concerns
Christian Heritage NZ leader Ewen McQueen believes the Pakuranga electorate has a prime opportunity this election to
once again exercise its independent spirit and elect an outsider to Parliament. Noting the growing concerns about moral
issues in the nation he said the electorate was well placed to give voice to those concerns on behalf of the rest of New
Zealand. The CHNZ leader who is standing as a candidate in Pakuranga said,
“Pakuranga elected a Social Credit MP in the 1980s as a protest vote against the main parties. Here is another
opportunity to register a protest – this time against the liberal morality being enshrined in the laws of our land.
Pakuranga can rise up and make a clear stand for the moral issues that so many New Zealanders are becoming increasingly
concerned about.”
Mr McQueen noted that the incumbent MP Maurice Williamson who had been in the job eighteen years, appeared out of touch
with the growing concerns in the wider community about moral issues. His voting track record showed a strong liberal
streak, and included support for euthanasia, liberalising prostitution laws and giving legal recognition to homosexual
and de-facto relationships. McQueen stated,
“The institution of marriage is the primary building block of stable family life. However Mr Williamson has supported
the legislation that removes the unique legal status of marriage, and hence downgrades its social significance.
Pakuranga clearly needs a new MP who understands the vital importance of marriage.”
Ewen McQueen is married with four children. He has an MA(Hons) in economics and has worked in the health sector as a
project manager and analyst. Ewen has a 13 year track record of advocacy for family values, having first stood for
Christian Heritage in 1993. He was elected as the leader of Christian Heritage NZ two years ago.
