“Maru Samuel – Major Challenge to Win Te Tai Tonga Seat”
Maru Samuel, Destiny New Zealand Candidate for Te Tai Tonga, admits he has a major challenge on his hands if he is to win the southern most Maori seat.
The latest Marae digipoll for Te Tai Tonga places Mr Samuel in 4th place on 4.1 per cent. However, Mr Samuel is not phased with his placing.
“My team and I will work even harder to convince Maori that Destiny New Zealand’s focus on addressing core issues rather than symptoms provides the best solution for whanau”, said Mr Samuel.
Mr Samuel believes if he can secure some support from the high percentage of undecided voters in Te Tai Tonga, currently 18.1 per cent, this will put Destiny New Zealand in good contention.
“We are going to make a bee line for these voters. They are obviously strategic thinkers who won’t just throw their votes to any old Maori or any old party for that matter”, he added.
Destiny New Zealand’s election ace card may just be its willingness to meet kanohi ki te kanohi with Maori on the doorsteps of their homes.
“We are door knocking strongly in Lower Hutt, Nelson, Dunedin and Christchurch. Maori voters have told us they really appreciate the fact that we are taking the time to walk and talk with them”, said Mr Samuel.
Destiny New Zealand’s core message is to protect, empower and prosper whanau. While the party has strong policies on health, education, the Treaty and wealth creation, the primary focus is on the whanau.
