Brash Disappoints on Family Values
Christian Heritage NZ leader Ewen McQueen has reiterated that voters should not rely on the National party to address
the moral issues that were increasingly becoming a concern to many New Zealanders. McQueen noted that,
"At yesterdays Grey Power meeting in Kapiti, Dr Brash disappointed many attendees by his refusal to address moral issues
in any substantive way. He refused to commit to any changes in either the civil unions or prostitution legislation.
These are clearly issues that he simply doesn't want to deal with. That's why Parliament needs Christian Heritage New
Zealand - to be a moral anchor to a centre right government."
The CHNZ leader also said that most New Zealanders knew that the country had serious problems with the breakdown of
family life, and this was only going to be addressed by rebuilding decent moral values into society - not by tax cuts.
McQueen also responded to an Act Party pamphlet published yesterday which was directed at Christian voters, saying it
was back-handed recognition of the importance of the Christian/ family values constituency. He stated,
" Act obviously realise there is a significant latent Christian/ family values constituency out there. However their
nine reasons why Christians should vote for Act, look rather hollow alongside the nine years they have been in
Parliament and done nothing to affirm marriage or rebuild decent moral values back into our society. In fact many of
them have voted in favour of liberalising prostitution and the civil unions legislation."
The Christian Heritage NZ leader said it was time for all New Zealanders concerned about moral issues to vote into
Parliament a party that would actually do something about these issues.
