Labour's Tax Relief Encourages Family Break-ups
This Labour government continues its attack on marriage.
The proposed "family tax relief" package means that a couple with 4 children and each parent earning $35,000 will soon
receive $10,200 a year more if they split up and take 2 children each.
Labour seems eager to provide financial incentives promoting family break up. Previously this incentive only applied to
low income families and the unemployed, but now they want to apply marriage breakup incentives to middle income
families.
Families dependent on State welfare are probably more likely to vote Labour and perhaps this is why Labour has so little
regard for the socially and economically more successful family unit headed by a committed married couple. Instead, they
seem determined to increase the number of welfare dependent left wing voters. This fits with their stated objective of
becoming the natural choice of government for New Zealand.
