Morality a Critical Election Issue
Moral values will be a pivotal issue at this election says Destiny New Zealand Christchurch Central candidate, Anita
Breach.
“The feedback that I am receiving from my electorate indicates a definite groundswell of dissatisfaction with the moral
climate created by a Labour-led government.”
Issues such as the decriminalisation of prostitution, suburban brothels and allowing child and youth abortions without
parental knowledge have been some of the catalysts in the resurgence of moral debate.
While current electorate MP Tim Barnett doesn’t believe issues like civil unions are figuring large in the minds of the
voting public, Mrs. Breach disagrees. She says even the very process by which the Civil Union Act was enacted is a moral
issue.
“97% of written submissions regarding this legislation were opposed to it but the select committee, chaired by Mr.
Barnett, simply ignored the public.”
“It is crucial that voters assess the value system of each candidate before casting their vote on September 17. It’s the
inherent value system of each politician elected this year that is going to determine the future environment in which
all of our children grow up, that’s the bottom line.”
