Morning report off air again: more action likely
Radio New Zealand’s flagship current affairs show, Morning Report was off air again today as union members from the
Public Service Association and the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union walked off the job in protest at their
employer’s refusal to offer a fair pay rise.
“Radio New Zealand’s refusal to budge on the miserable 3 per cent pay rise comes at the same time as figures released
from Statistics New Zealand show the largest increase in wages and salaries since 1993.
“All we want is a decent pay rise so our members can get back to doing what they are best at: providing high quality
public broadcasting for the nation.
“Radio New Zealand needs to show that its commitment to staff goes deeper that mere rhetoric and immediately offer a
decent pay rise coupled with additional annual leave.
“Further industrial action is the only option open to our members even though we would much rather be back around the
negotiating table discussing how Radio New Zealand can properly value its staff.
“Union members are sick of Radio New Zealand’s contradictory claims that they have no money while they are not sure how
much is in their budgets for new programmes,” said PSA Organiser Brenden Sheehan.
