Fire Truck Gifted to the Solomon Islands
The fire engine gifted to the Solomon Islands by the RNZAF is loaded on to
a C-130 Hercules at RNZAF Base Auckland, ready for transport to Honiara
tomorrow morning.
The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) has gifted a crash fire engine to the Solomon Islands.
This afternoon the fire truck, which weighs over 10 thousand kilograms, was loaded on to a C-130 Hercules ready for
transport to Honiara tomorrow morning.
Two fire fighters and two mechanics from RNZAF Base Auckland will also travel to Honiara to train local authorities on
how to use and maintain the new equipment.
“We’ll give them a run down on how to drive the truck, and how to use the water and foam turrets in an emergency
situation,” said Fire Fighter, Flight Sergeant Paul Leadbetter.
Henderson International Airport in Honiara currently has just one operational fire engine after one was damaged in an
accident earlier this year.
The RNZAF is currently upgrading its crash fire vehicle fleet.
