Altrusa Peace Quilt In The City Of Peace
Altrusa Clubs of Christchurch recently celebrated the launch of Altrusa Peace Quilt.
The Deputy Mayor of Christchurch,Cr Carole Evans launched the Peace Quilt at the City Council reception.
Councillor Evans was a former Altrusian herself (1974-1989.
Altrusa Peace Quilt will be displayed at Our City Otahi,(former Information Centre),Christchurch during the Peace Week
from 2 August.
Peace Week is an annual initiative organised by various community groups working towards peace. Peace Week is to promote
peace,education,raise awareness about ways to resolve conflict non-violently and foster peace worldwide.
Peace Week programme begins from 6 August through to 12 August and includes Lantern Ceremony,Tau Te Mauri/
Breath of Peace, Addington Community Peace Concert and International Film Festival (Peace Film).
The Peace Foundation also operates New Zealand's most extensive Peace Education Resource Centres - in Auckland and
Christchurch.
The Peace Foundation publishes resources on a range of topics: peace education in schools, building self esteem,
co-operation and conflict resolution, anger management, non-violence, mediation, social justice and nuclear disarmament.
Its educational resources provide activities, lesson plans, ideas and activity sheets for teachers, educators, parents
and caregivers.
