Transmission Gully only option for Mana
Transmission Gully is the only viable option for the Mana community and with National's policy of spending all petrol
tax on roads and actively encouraging the private sector to participate in building new roads, the Gully option is
viable says Chris Finlayson.
National has committed to both moving all the Petrol Tax over to road funding and to working actively to attract the
private sector into funding new roading. The combination of these two policies would ensure Transmission Gully was
viable even if some form of toll was needed.
Mr Finlayson is holding a public meeting on National's transport policy on Wednesday 27 July at the Plimmerton Pavilion.
The meeting will start at 7:30pm.
"Overwhelming local opposition to a substantial upgrade to the coastal road will almost guarantee a long and protracted
resource consent process, and the region simply can't afford to wait. Clogging up the only route along the Kapiti Coast
for years isn't any way to fix our road system.
"I am not prepared to sit back and watch the communities of Mana, Plimmerton and Pukerua Bay be destroyed when a more
sensible alternative route is available.
"Jenny Brash has done a good job supporting the best option for Mana and I congratulate her. It is a real shame that her
friends in Labour aren't as pragmatic.
"I am disappointed that Winnie Laban is silent on this issue. At this critical time Mana needs a strong advocate who
will support its case," Mr Finlayson says.
