"Destiny New Zealand Stakes Claim for the Maori Electorates"
Rangataua Marae, located on the outskirts of Whakatane, hosted Destiny New Zealand's Maori candidates in their bid to win the seven Maori electorates. The Marae is home base for party leader, Richard Lewis.
"As a party that upholds traditional family values it was fitting that we began our campaign for the Maori seats from home base. This is particularly significant because we are one of only three parties contesting all seven Maori electorates", said Mr Lewis.
He told locals that Destiny New Zealand launched over two years ago to restore traditional family values in the political arena. He was complimented by Hawea Vercoe, candidate for Waiariki, who said that the candidates represented a new generation of Maori leaders.
"I am proud to be counted amongst a new breed of Maori leaders - men and women who put whanau first - it's time to take the power off government and put it back into our homes", said Mr Vercoe.
