Voice Waikato support the Marriage Amendment Bill
“Voice Waikato urge MPs to support Larry Baldock’s Marriage (Gender Clarification) Amendment Bill through to Select Committee on its first reading next Wednesday 27 July,” says Bert Jackson, Voice Waikato spokesperson.
“New Zealand needs the opportunity to debate the Marriage Amendment Bill. With over 6,000 submissions being made on the Civil Union Act and 10,000 people marching in support of ‘family values’—we can be sure that marriage and family are important issues to kiwis.” “Parliament needs to take responsibility for ensuring that the common law understanding of marriage is upheld and not overturned by the Courts,” says Bert Jackson.
“Everyone knows marriage is between one man and one woman. That is what marriage is. We hope that all parties will see the importance of clarifying in law what society holds marriage to be,” says Bert Jackson.
