Destiny New Zealand candidate for Hutt South, David Knight recently met with representatives of 'Families Apart Require Equality' (FARE) and 'Parents for Children' to discuss policies for improving the relationships between parents and children where families are separated.
"There is no doubt in my mind that the Family Court must become more transparent," says Mr Knight. "Organisations like FARE and Parents for Children work hard, but government policy and increasing numbers of bureaucrats would seem to be continuing to restrict the access children have to estranged parents."
Mr Tichbon of FARE says, "For years we have lobbied, written submissions, completed media interviews and presented research, but still there is inequality in areas like child support and a child's access to their estranged parent. It is good to see that Destiny New Zealand is prepared to take this matter seriously."
Destiny New Zealand has clear policies relating to families. "Our Family Policy is our cornerstone," says Mr Knight, "and while be are committed to seeing marriage centred families prosper we know that this is not always possible. When it does go wrong, shared parenting, not just shared custody, must be the desired outcome."
Parents for Children are hosting an 'All Party' meeting at the Wellesley Church, Taranaki Street, Wellington on 24 August 2005. The topic is Child Support.
