CALLING TO UNITED KINGDOM RETURNING TO NORMAL
New Zealanders phoning into the United Kingdom and London in the wake of last night’s emergency in the city should now
be able to get through.
Telecom reported earlier today that heavy call volumes caused congestion in international calls to the United Kingdom
last night.
Telecom asked customers to restrict calls to the United Kingdom to essential calls.
This followed the news that international circuits into the United Kingdom were severely congested, as were fixed and
mobile networks within the country.
“Telecom can confirm that while heavy calling to the United Kingdom is continuing this morning, problems with call
congestion have eased off and New Zealanders should now find it easier to get through,” said Telecom Spokesperson John
Goulter.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised a new NZ Red Cross number this morning for people to call with
inquiries about the situation in London. The new number is 0800 733 276.
People in New Zealand should call that number for general inquiries.
