National Hui a Welcome Sight for Maori Party Supporters
A national hui of Maori Party supporters will be held in Auckland this Sunday (26 June).
The hui is being called to celebrate Matariki together and to put all Maori Party supporters on the same page in terms
of the national election trail.
Tai Tokerau candidate, Hone Harawira says our people are our main asset.
"Let's get real," says Harawira. "The Maori Party is just one year old. We don't have truckloads of money. We don't
have truckloads of resources. But we do have a lot of people who keep getting kicked around by Labour and National
governments. They're sick of it, which is why they've come to the Maori Party."
This Sunday's hui will launch a CD-single that has been produced by a youth group in Wellsford.
"It's this type of commitment, talent and focus that comes from out of our smaller communities that gives the Maori
Party the edge against others," Hone Harawira says.
"We've got this group of youth, donating a piece of work that's taken them the best part of six months to complete.
"These youth are automatically exercising the principles of the Maori Party - Kotahitanga (unity) through the lyrics;
Manaakitanga (caring for one another) by having the music available to supporters who don't live close to a Maori Party
branch; Wairuatanga (spirituality) through their voice range," says Harawira.
"Maori Party supporters have a lot to look forward to, and getting together this Sunday will help reinforce their
positive outlook," he says.
