Change Process to Move Wananga Forward
“Te Wananga o Aotearoa will take full advantage of the opportunity to provide further submissions to the Minister within
21 days, Te Wananga o Aotearoa Council Chair Craig Coxhead said today.
“We are confident that our submissions and the restructuring plans we are already implementing will give the Minister
confidence in the quality of our governance and avoid the dissolution of the Wananga’s council.
“Since the Minister first expressed concern about the council we have worked closely with the Crown Manager to improve
our financial position and move forward on restructuring plans. Our financial position is improving steadily and the
Council has agreed on changes that we are in the process of implementing.
“We look forward to informing the Minister on our progress and providing full details on how our proposals will be
implemented.
“During this time, the Wananga remains focused on providing a good quality, flexible and low cost education for our
students who can move on to further education or paid employment without the burden of high student debt.
“The high retention and completion rates (over 83% and 74% respectively) for our courses reflect the quality of pastoral
care this unique educational institution provides to students. Our reputation for providing good quality education is
reflected in enrolments for the current year which are running at a level slightly higher than last year.”
