Former diplomat rejoins MFAT as international legal adviser
Former diplomat Gerard van Bohemen has rejoined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Secretary of Foreign Affairs
and Trade Simon Murdoch said today.
Mr van Bohemen worked for MFAT for 14 years, mainly in its Legal Division and at the New Zealand Mission to the United
Nations in New York.
He was posted to New York twice, once in the early 1980s and a second time as Deputy New Zealand Representative during
New Zealand’s term on the Security Council in 1993 and 1994.
Over the past 10 years, Mr van Bohemen was a partner in law firms Buddle Findlay in Auckland and, more recently, Chen
Palmer & Partners in Wellington.
He returned to the Ministry in April as a special adviser on legal aspects of international security issues before
taking over recently as International Legal Adviser and Director of the Ministry’s Legal Division.
